Edgar Allan Poe’s life and legacy are deeply intertwined with Baltimore and it defines the beginning and the end of his life.

The Enoch Pratt Free Library has an important collection of Poe’s books, manuscripts, letters and even a lock of his hair.  The George Peabody Library  also houses rare Poe books and a number of original letters.

John Waters – Charm City’s iconic unofficial ambassador – on Baltimore:  “I would never want to live anywhere but Baltimore. You can look far and wide, but you’ll never discover a stranger city with such extreme style. It’s as if every eccentric in the South decided to move north, ran out of gas in Baltimore, and decided to stay.”

The Drinkery was background in Pink Flamingos. It is now one of the oldest LGBTQ+ bars in Baltimore.

Visit a few of his favorite places, like Atomic Books, Peter’s Inn, or the Senator Theatre.
