AMIA will celebrate its 30th anniversary conference online!
Thank you all who responded to our survey. Overwhelmingly, while everyone’s first choice would be to meet in person in El Paso, concerns about the circumstances caused by the COVID-19 pandemic make a virtual event the safest approach this year. As we celebrate our 30th anniversary, we also believe this is an opportunity to reimagine the conference as an online event that allows broader participation and new voices, is more affordable to attend, and can help us model ways of keeping what we learn as part of our next in-person experience. Again, we expect that our audience will be greatly enhanced by making this event available to the hundreds of members that have not been previously able to attend. We see this as an opportunity to establish our online presence as our events go live again in 2021.
We’re still planning and learning from other conferences, but we know we’ll need to restructure a bit to make sure that content is delivered in digestible segments, with a real focus on offering opportunities to participate virtually in conversations with colleagues. Networking and personal interaction is a cornerstone of the conference and we want to provide as many opportunities as we can for attendees to connect over the emerging and salient topics in our field.
If you’ve seen things at other conferences that you particularly like (or dislike) please let the conference committee know (program@amiaconference.com)! The Board, the Conference Committee, and the office are working hard on bringing structure and logistics together and the CEA Task Force, who has learned a lot in this space over the webinar series, will be working with us, too.
