Ripping Digital AV Tape
While there exists a wealth of expertise in the preservation of analog AV tapes, as well as in the preservation of digital files, there are significantly fewer resources regarding the preservation of tape-based digital audiovisual materials. This demonstration will focus on miniDV tape and Audio DAT tape and demonstrate how to transfer the data from these tapes into files.  Presenters will also cover how obsolescence issues impact the sustainability of such workflows and how handling these tapes as a data transfer differs from recording the presentation created by a playback device.

In this activity, the basic capabilities and features of IIIF will be discussed, along with demonstrations of several implementations of IIIF for audio and moving image.

16mm Direct Animation Station + Screening Space

Direct animation is a fun, inclusive way for anyone and everyone to become a filmmaker. It’s also a great opportunity for non-film-based archivists to interact with film and film projection. We would also compensate for the loss of film projection at Archival Screening Night by using the projector and space to screen 16mm prints brought to us by attendees.

  • Thursday:  12:00pm – 3:00pm
