AMIA 2026 | Lightning Talk Sessions

Lightning talks are quick, focused presentations (3–4 minutes each), brought together in a moderated session. After the presentations, speakers return for a shared Q&A, creating space for conversation and exchange with the audience.

In submitting your proposal you may submit more than one Lightning Talk proposal.

We invite you to submit a proposal for a lightning talk on any of the following topics—

AI Tools & Policies in Archives

These short presentations (3–4 minutes each) are an opportunity to share practical experiences, emerging approaches, and open questions with colleagues across the field. Topics might include (but are not limited to):

  • Implementing or testing AI tools in archival workflows
  • Developing or adapting policies related to AI use, access, or training data
  • Questions of authenticity, provenance, and trust
  • Ethical considerations and decision-making frameworks
  • Lessons learned—what worked, what didn’t, and what you’re still figuring out
  • Early-stage ideas or pilots in progress

Disaster Preparation, Response, & Recovery in Archives

These short presentations (3–4 minutes each) offer an opportunity to share practical experiences, lessons learned, and evolving strategies for protecting collections and sustaining operations in the face of unexpected emergencies.

Topics might include (but are not limited to):

  • Developing or updating disaster preparedness plans
  • Experiences responding to emergencies (natural disasters, infrastructure failures, etc.)
  • Recovery and salvage efforts for audiovisual and related materials
  • Risk assessment and mitigation strategies
  • Working with limited resources or in under-resourced contexts
  • Collaboration with institutional partners, emergency responders, or community networks
  • Building organizational readiness
  • Reflections on what worked, what didn’t, and what you would do differently

 

Current & Future Projects

These short presentations (3–4 minutes each) are an opportunity to share what you’re working on, talk about early thinking, and connect with others who may have similar interests or complementary expertise. Whether you’re just getting started, actively in progress, or looking to expand or refine a project, this is a space to share and build connections.

Topics might include (but are not limited to):

  • New or emerging projects in archiving and preservation
  • Early-stage ideas or pilots seeking feedback
  • Projects in progress – challenges, pivots, and next steps
  • Opportunities for collaboration, partnership, or shared resources
  • Cross-institutional or interdisciplinary initiatives
  • Tools, workflows, or approaches you’re developing or testing
  • Questions you’re exploring and areas where input would be valuable
